As a Payroll Lead, you will handle the day-to-day payroll processing operations for both ePlus’ domestic and overseas companies. You will ensure that employee payments, tax liabilities and funds distribution are accurate and in compliance with company policies, as well as state and federal regulations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accurate and timely semi-monthly disbursement of multi-state payroll, including taxes, garnishments and benefits to all 1000+ employees, consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Work with the Benefits team to ensure accurate processing of status changes, such as LOA, and benefit deductions
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, transfers, promotions and terminations including special payments, as necessary
  • Prepare all backup documentation for review by management
  • Update company intranet as necessary to ensure the Payroll section is up to date and accurate
  • Maintain payroll information to ensure up-to-date reference and audit trails for compliance.
  • Communicate with both internal and external parties (city/state/federal agencies, etc.)  to ensure accurate processing of payroll deductions and garnishments
  • Provide preliminary Verification all of payroll related information (e.g. time sheets, Salary changes, wage attachments, benefits, etc.) to ensure accurate payroll disbursement
  • Compile data from various sources (e.g. time sheets/payroll, salary adjustments, tax deposits, etc.) in order to analyze issues, ensure compliance and/or  monitor payroll program components
  • Research discrepancies of payroll information and/or documentation (e.g. time sheets, leave time, etc.) to ensure accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing
  • Respond to employee and management inquiries by providing information and/or direction and provide training on new payroll processes as necessary.
  • Monitor and reconcile tax reports for accuracy and compliance and communicate issues to the payroll service provider and/ or taxing jurisdictions
  • Respond to requests from employees and external agencies on matters relating to payroll and taxes
  • Complete required payroll related US and state census bureau reports
  • Assist in ensuring smooth transitions of payroll related matters for new employees who come on board due to company acquisitions
  • Assist in the reconciliation of quarterly tax filings and annual reports, W-2s and other employee statements
  • Assist in ongoing preparations of relevant management and tax-related reports, in support of tax return preparation, tax audit, as well as management reporting
  • Assist in ensuring the payroll system reflects current tax and regulatory compliance
  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental training
  • Assist with special projects as needed (acquisitions, open enrollment and installation/upgrades to payroll software applications)
  • Assist in the review of W-2 Wage and Tax Statements for all companies prior to distribution to ensure accuracy
  • Assist in payroll-related audits with both internal and external auditors
Requirements

Job Knowledge/Skills:

  • Excellent attention-to-detail
  • Knowledge of state and federal tax laws pertaining to  payroll processing as well as special tax laws for fringe benefits, stock and S125 plans
  • Intermediate-level skills with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Solid knowledge of Payroll/ HR and Benefit regulations
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with overseas payroll processing
  • Excellent communication skills

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree or higher, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of payroll experience in a multi-state environment
  • 2 + years management experience
  • FPC or CPP preferred
